Dear All,
Today is International Noise Awareness Day, an important day for us to remember the harmful effects of noise on humans, wildlife, and the environment. The day is aimed to raise awareness in people about noise pollution, which is becoming a growing concern all around the world. Excessive noise can cause not only irritation but also serious health problems.
Noise pollution is a common issue in cities, where the sound of traffic, construction work, animal noise, sounds amplifying devices, household parties, karaoke singing, simply watching tv, listening to music, people shouting, noise from establishments, buzzers, church bell, school activities, and entertainment venues can all contribute to high noise levels.
These unwanted sounds contribute to stress levels, sleep deprivation and can even lead to hearing loss. Moreover, exposure to noise pollution can lead to coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, cognitive decline, chronic stress, male hypogonadism, and even depression.
It's not just humans that are affected either. Noise pollution also has an impact on wildlife, as it can disrupt their behavioral patterns, mating, and communication. Birds are especially sensitive to noise pollution, with severe consequences on their behavior, management, and conservation efforts.
The environment also suffers consequences from noise pollution. Noise pollution can lead to soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, increased air and water pollution, and a reduction in vegetation and crops which drive wildlife populations.
So, let's all come together and take steps to reduce noise pollution. Whether it’s by turning down your stereo, using noise-reducing headphones, or planting trees around the community, we can all play our part to make the world less noisy and healthier.
Let's make this International Noise Awareness Day a step forward to a more peaceful, healthy, and quieter world.
Best regards,
Anti Noise Crusaders of the Philippines Inc.
